Policy Groups Release Report Advocating for Expansion of Sales Tax Base
A conglomeration of policy organizations released an anticipated report entitled “Modernizing Illinois’’ Sales Tax: A Pathway to Sustainable Future” advocating for the expansion of the sales tax base to provide the state and communities needed revenue. While the report does not list a roster of proposed services to be taxed, it would appear that the report adopts an “Iowa Model” of consumer services but specifically provides for a broad Business to Business exemption to avoid tax pyramiding.
